Last week I participated in a small contest held by Coudal Partners regarding a talk Jim Coudal did at SXSW. As it turns out, I won and was mailed a slew of stuff as a reward. Now find out how you can get some of it!

Figure 1: All the stuff Coudal Partners mailed me.
Contents of this very cool package (Figure 1) included:
- The Field Notes set,
- a Field Notes 2008 calendar,
- two Coudal stickers
- and a signed and numbered Field Tested Books, Summer Reading 2006 poster.
There are some things in life that I really enjoy, among those are getting things in the mail, notebooks of all sizes and cool print material. Now combine all these and you have one euphoric mail-opening experience!
A big thanks to Coudal Partners for the stuff.
On Field Notes Notebooks
Aside from the bold use of Futura (no pun intended) on the cover, what I first noticed about the notebooks is that they’re very pleasant to the touch, more so than their Moleskin counterparts. The specifications in the back list the cover material as French 80#C Dur-O-Tone “Packing Brown Wrap.” I’m a fan.
I’ve already used one and one-quarter pages of the first notebook. The first page was a concept sketch for a further refinement of this site’s coming redesign and the second page is a list of WordPress plugins I’m going to need (see Figure 2).
(I can’t show you my sketch! That would ruin the surprise.)
Sharing the Love
I had so much fun getting this package that I want to give away a small part of it. So here’s the deal, I’m going to mail one Field Notes notebook and one Coudal Partners sticker to the person who submits the best photo with coffee as the subject.
Another thing in life I really enjoy is a good cup of coffee; and for some reason I get a lot of creative energy from looking at pictures of coffeehouses, coffee, etc. So the goal is to collect the submitted images and then post them as an “inspiration” set to reference when in need of a little creative jolt.
Images should be at least 500px wide and emailed to me at david .at. thedesigncanopy .dot. com. All images will be credited with your name, a link to your site, etc. So you should be the photographer or at least own the rights to the image you submit.
The winning entry will be at my discretion and the deadline will be next Thursday, April 3, 9pm EST.
Good luck!
Commentary
Hey David, I am just wondering if you are planning to release this design as a wordpress theme when you are finished with the new one? If not, is it possible to copy for example the menu bar, without infriging on the copyright?
Paul: I sent you an email about it.
